Birthday Fun Preschool Storytime

Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds:

• Opening - "A Tooty Ta" from Dance Like This by Mr. Al

• Literacy activity - Alphabet Boxes 

I handed each child one of these alphabet discovery boxes that my library got from Lakeshore Learning. We then sang the alphabet song and the children brought up their box at the appropriate letter.  

  

  

• Book #1 - The Secret Birthday Message by Eric Carle 

• Stand-up activity - "If You're Happy and You Know It" action song from Wee Sing Children's Songs and Fingerplays by Wee Sing 

• Sit down activity - Pat-A-Cake (traditional clapping song)

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.

Bake me a cake as fast as you can

Pat it, and roll it, and mark it with "B"

And put it in the oven for Baby and me!

• Book #2 - The Birthday Queen by Audrey and Don Wood 

• Book #3 - The Mixed-up Truck by Stephen Savage 

• Closing - Dance with scarves to the song "Silly Dance Contest" from Jim Gill Sings the Sneezing Song and Other Contagious Tunes by Jim Gill

 

 

• Art experience - Cut out candles to glue onto a drawing of a birthday cake
