Homeschool Meetup: Building Challenge

A Thursday morning library program for homeschool families. 

Goals:

·                     Opportunity to explore STEAM concepts in a relaxed setting.

·                     Participants can socialize and connect with other homeschool families.

·                     Students build confidence and cooperative skills by completing tasks together.  

 

Name tag table: 

Invite participants to create a name tag using the die cut shapes, tape, and pens.  

 

 

Getting to know you board:

Invite participants to answer the question on the whiteboard so that we can get to know each other.  

 

QUESTION: What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

 

 

Activity of the day: Building Challenge

Use the spaghetti noodles and marshmallows to create a structure that can hold:

-          A hedgehog toy

-          A star-bellied Snitch

-          A fox stuffed animal

 

Supplies:

·                     Dried spaghetti noodles

·                     Marshmallows

·                     Plastic trays (to carry their noodles and marshmallows to where they will be working)

·                     Stuffed animal toys

• Hedgehog
• Star-bellied Snitch

Activity of the day: Build and create!

1)      Use the building toys to create fun structures.

2)      Design your own buttons using the button maker.

·                     Wood blocks cabinet

·                     Animals and cars for building blocks

·                     Marble run set

·                     Magnet tile box set

·                     Straw Connectors box set

·                     Button maker.

·                     Button maker pieces.

·                     Button maker circle cutter.

·                     Paper circles for the button maker

·                     Coloring pens

·                     Stickers

·                     Tablecloth

 

 

Homeschool Meet-up: Building Challenge Marble Run

 This was my first Homeschool Meet-up event!  I think it was a great success.  Six families showed up and worked on some problem solving skills as they tried out my building challenge.
