The children color and folded and taped papers to make a small paper pocket with a unicorn face clip art on it. Place this pocket on a straw and then blow into the straw to allow the unicorn to fly.

The children made paper bag octopuses. Color the paper bags, cut the tentacles, add sticker eyes. Simple yet the kiddos enjoyed it.

Craft activity:
The children made a place for their paper owls to hide
in. Each child got one die cut owl plus
a sheet of green paper. The green paper
had lines for creating fringe cut grass and a line for where to fold the
grass. Then, they used a little bit of
glue from a glue stick to hide their owls in the grass. The campers showed a lot of creativity in coloring
and hiding their owls.

Jingle sticks! Color
a craft stick. String three jingle bells
onto a pipe cleaner. Wrap the pipe
cleaner around the craft stick. So
easy! Plus, it forces the kiddos to use
those tiny finger muscles.

I used clip art to make a bird silhouette that the campers
colored and cut out with scissors. (I
love to inflict scissor cutting on these kiddos!) After folding the bird in half, they taped it
to one end of a straw. Now they had a
flapping, flying bird.

Folding fish surprise!
There are a ton of videos on YouTube on how to make this fun folding
fish. But my inspiration came from the
Easy Peasy and Fun blog at https://www.easypeasyandfun.com/surprise-big-mouth-fish-printable/. I added a little touch of fun to this project
by giving the campers a craft foam insect to glue inside the fish’s mouth.

Craft activity:
Mac and cheese straw launchers - I copied some mac and cheese drawings from the book onto a paper. Color the mac and cheese bowls. Then fold the paper over, tape the sides, and slide a straw inside the simple envelope. A puff of air into the straw will launch the mac and cheese into the air.

Craft activity:
We made folding frogs with a surprise in its mouth. I found this craft idea at https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/frog-folding-surprise/. The surprise was anything the children wanted to draw in the mouth. I also gave them small pieces of scrap craft foam strips to use as a tongue. I loved the imaginative colors the children gave their frogs!

We made owl hats. Basically they were an owl face on a headband. They looked like masks but they were not masks because there were no eye holes.

We made rabbit finger puppets that I found at https://eastertemplate.com/bunny-finger-puppet/. I made a slit in each of the finger holes before arriving at the camp. This made it easier for the campers to cut these small holes.

We made an orca leaping over paper plate waves. This craft was inspired by something I found online that was a dolphin. I changed the animal to make it go with the book I read.

We made jingle sticks to keep ourselves awake. I actually made this craft last year with this same group, but the kids had so much fun with it that I brought it back again this year. Slide three jingle bells on a pipe-cleaner. Decorate a large craft stick. Then, wrap the pipe cleaner around the craft stick.

Craft activity:
We made a flapping dragon to go with the book. My inspiration for this craft came from a flapping butterfly we made last year. Using a similar design as the butterfly, I drew a dragon for the children to cut and fold. Unfortunately, due to some craziness happening this day, we ran out of time to color the dragons. But we had just enough time to cut it out and tape it to a straw so they can flap around the room.

We made cake straw launchers. I created the template using cake themed clipart I found online. The children cut, colored, folded, and then taped up their cakes. They could then launch them into the air with a straw. I got the idea for this craft from the rocket straw launchers I made with the campers last summer. These cake launchers were very popular!
