Winter Snow Storytime

Storytime for 1 to 3 year olds:
  • Opening - Skinnamarink (from Car Songs: Songs to Sing Anywhere by Dennis Buck at Kimbo), Sticky Sticky Bubblegum
  • Book #1 – Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London, illustrated by Frank Remkiewicz
  • Stand-up Activity - This Is the Way We Play In the Snow (action song written by Carol Hopkins to the tune of "Here We go Round the Mulberry Bush")
This is the way we stomp through the snow, stomp through the snow, stomp through the snow.
This is the way we stomp through the snow,
When we go out to play.
This is the way we hop through the snow, hop through the snow, hop through the snow.
This is the way we hop through the snow,
When we go out to play.
(Repeat with other action words)
  • Bridge - Open Shut Them (fingerplay)
Open, shut them
(open and close hands)
Open, shut them
Give a little clap (clap)
Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Put them in your lap
(put hands in lap)

Creep them, creep them
Under your chin
(creep fingers up chest)
Open your mouth, but don't put them in
(do as words say)

Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Give a little clap
Open shut them
Open shut them
Put them in your lap
  • Flannelboard/Math Activity - 5 Little Snowmen (counting down rhyme I found on some website)
  • Sit-down Activity - Itsy Bitsy Snowflake (fingerplay to the tune of "Itsy Bitsy Spider" that I found in Mailbox Preschool magazine, Dec./Jan. 2007-8, page 26)
  • Book #2 - Cleo In the Snow by Caroline Mockford
  • Activity – Make Some Snowballs (action song written by Carol Hopkins to the tune of "Are You Sleeping?")
Snow is falling, snow is falling
All around, all around
Come let's make some snowballs, come let's make some snowballs
Throw them here, throw them there
  • Closing - Scarves to the song "Flitter, Flutter" from The Second Line by Johnette Downing
  • Craft – White paint on dark blue construction paper, use a Q-tip as the painting instrument.
