  • Opening - Skinnamarink, Sticky Sticky Bubblegum
  • Book #1 – Loudest Roar by Thomas Taylor
  • Activity – I'm a Tiger (action rhyme I adapted from another similar rhyme about lions; sung to the tune of "3 Blind Mice")
I'm a tiger, I'm a tiger
Hear me roar, hear me roar
I love to sleep up high in a tree
And jump at all the other animals
In all the jungle I'm number one
I'm a tiger, hear me roar!

  • Book #2 - Over In the Grasslands by Anna Wilson and Alison Bartlett
  • Activity - Zoo Animals (action song to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"; my notes do not say where I found this one)
If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!
If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!
If you want to be a monkey, if you want to be a monkey,
If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!

Parrot - flap your wings
Elephant - swing your trunk
Giraffe - stand up tall
Lion - roar out loud
  • Closing - Scarves using "Water, Wind and World" from The Second Line by Johnette Downing
  • Craft – Glue shredded gift wrap paper onto the mane of a lion drawing

When we get all dirty.

This is the way we rub our ears...

Careers Storytime

Storytime for 1-1/2 to 3 year olds:
  • Opening - Skinnamarink, Sticky Sticky Bubblegum
  • Book #1 – Shhhhh! Everybody's Sleeping by Julie Markes, illustrated by David Parkins
  • Activity – Shake My Sillies Out (action song from More Singable Songs by Raffi)
  • Flannelboard/Math Activity - Color pattern blocks, predict the next color in the pattern
  • Book #2 - *** When Poppy and Max Grow Up by Lindsey Gardiner
  • Activity - Some Dogs (action rhyme, I slightly rewrote this one from one I saw somewhere)
Some dogs run.
Some dogs bark.
Some dogs jump.
Some dogs growl.
Some dogs roll in the grass.
Some dogs yip.
Some dogs sniff.
Some dogs howl.
And some dogs just wag their tails all day.
  • Closing - Scarves using "Water, Wind and World" from The Second Line by Johnette Downing
  • Craft – Painting (being an artist like Poppy)
*** Targeted Parent Literacy Enhancement - The more words children know the easier it is when they learn how to read. Research tells us that it is easier to read a word that you have already heard. Books help your child learn new words, or vocabulary, because books contain more words than you will find in everyday conversations.

Crabs are crawling, crabs are crawling
On the rocks, on the rocks
Watch out for their pinchers, watch out for their pinchers
Snap, snap, snap!
Snap, snap, snap!
  • Closing - Scarves using "Water, Wind and World" from The Second Line by Johnette Downing
  • Craft – Glue tissue paper square scales onto a fish drawing
***Parent Literacy Enhancement - Songs have different notes for different syllables. This is one way we help children hear the parts of words. And it's also fun!

Rabbit Storytime

Storytime for 1-1/2 to 3 year olds:
  • Opening - Skinnamarink, Sticky Sticky Bubblegum
  • Book #1 – Bunny and Me by Adele Aron Greenspun and Joanie Schwarz
  • Activity – Not a Single Word (action rhyme I found in I'm a Little Teapot by Jane Cobb)
  • Flannelboard/Math Activity - This Little Bunny (I'm not sure which website I found this counting rhyme)
This little bunny has two pink eyes.
This little bunny is very wise.
This little bunny is soft as silk.
This little bunny is white as milk.
This little bunny nibbles away at cabbages and carrots the livelong day!
  • Book #2 - ***What Can Rabbit Hear? by Lucy Cousins (lift-flap)
  • Activity - I Saw a Little Bunny (my notes do not say where I found this whole body action rhyme)
  • Closing - Scarves using "Water, Wind and World" from The Second Line by Johnette Downing
  • Craft – Color rabbit ear headbands
***Parent Literacy Enhancement - You might have noticed that I ran my fingers under the words of the book's title and author. This simple action helps children know that it is the words we are reading, that we read from left to right, and from top to bottom. These concepts are all part of print motivation.
