Thanksgiving Storytime

Storytime for 1 to 3 year olds:
  • Bridge - Open Shut Them (fingerplay)
Open, shut them
(open and close hands)
Open, shut them
Give a little clap (clap)
Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Put them in your lap
(put hands in lap)

Creep them, creep them
Under your chin
(creep fingers up chest)
Open your mouth, but don't put them in
(do as words say)

Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Give a little clap
Open shut them
Open shut them
Put them in your lap
  • Flannelboard/Math Activity - Turkey Cheese Fondue (counting rhyme by Carol Hopkins)
1, 2, make some fondue
3, 4, make some more
5, 6, together they mix
7, 8, where's the plate?
9, 10, let's make it again
10 turkeys eating cheese fondue
  • Sit-down Activity - 10 Fat Turkeys (not sure where I picked up this fingerplay)
Ten fat turkeys standing in a row.
They spread their wings and tails just so.
They look to the left,
They look to the right,
When they strut their stuff, they're quite a sight!
But you won't see them on Thanksgiving Day,
'Cause one by one they'll run away.
  • Book #2 - Five Silly Turkeys by Salina Yoon (board book)
  • Activity – I'm a Little Turkey (action song to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot" found in The Mailbox Preschool magazine, Oct./Nov. 1999, page 37)
  • Closing - Eggshakers to the song "I Know a Chicken" from Whaddaya Think of That? by Laurie Berkner
  • Craft – Glue feathers onto a turkey shape
